14 Park Drive, Langley Park has community defibrillator installed

Mark Preston

Ben Simpson, a cardiac arrest survivor, has installed a defibrillator at 14 Park Drive, Langley Park, DH7 9TD

Ben Simpson, who suffered a cardiac arrest on Monday, 29th January 2024, while on the field, is another key part of this story. Thanks to the swift action of his teammates and officials, CPR and defibrillation saved his life. After months of resilience and recovery, Ben has made an impressive comeback and recently launched his own electrical business, Sparkwise Solutions.

Inspired by his experience, Ben installed a defibrillator at his former employer’s factory and has since become a passionate supporter of MISSEDABEAT. His mission is now to advocate for more defibrillators across the country, ensuring others have access to life-saving equipment.

The defibrillator was funded by the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) North East and MISSEDABEAT who has overseen the installation and ensured that safety kit and any replacement pads etc are made available.

Mark from MISSEDABEAT met with Stuart Miller from CECA (NE) to discuss the need for defibrillators at key sites throughout the northeast. Now, four defibrillators have been successfully installed across Northumberland, County Durham, Tyne & Wear, and the Tees Valley. The partnership between MISSED A BEAT and CECA is expected to continue growing, providing further life-saving support to the region.

Glenda Hall, the property owner who leases it out via Airbnb, has taken on the role of guardian for the defibrillator. She has been keen to support MISSEDABEAT in finding the ideal placement, ensuring that both visitors and the local community have access to this life-saving equipment.

MISSED A BEAT has received some warm words of appreciation from the Langley Park Community Spirit Facebook page, reflecting the positive impact the defibrillator installation has made on the local community. This recognition highlights the growing support for the charity’s life-saving mission.

Keep an eye on MISSED A BEAT and Ben—exciting things are happening! They've been busy working on new initiatives, so stay tuned for more updates as they continue making a difference in communities and expanding access to life-saving defibrillators.
