Heighington 3 - 1 Heighington Legends
On Saturday 6th July the boys had there first game back in what has become an annual fixture in the calendar, up against the legends.
The event was in aid of MISSEDABEAT 💙❤️ a fantastic local charity that enables us swift access to much needed defibrillators in critical moments.
MISSEDABEAT would like to Thank Heighington FC and the legends for there support and will announce how much money was raised from the event in due course.
First half kicked off with one team looking up for the occasion, the legends getting stuck in early doors. Against the run of play the 1st team had a great chance to go 1 up but a fingertip safe from the keeper kept the scores level. Then a moment of magic, Legend of the game Andy Turner enters the field of play and with his first involvement looks up from 40+ yards out and send his shot flying into the top corner of the net, 1-0 legends and well deserved. The first team shocked by going behind try and push for an equalizer before half time but to no avail with solid displays of defending by the legends back four. Half time 0-1.
The second half saw some changes for both teams but the game was very much in the hands of the legends for the opening 15 minutes, another long range shot being tipped over by the 1st team keeper.
Then the moment came, pressure from the 1st team saw Luke Catchpole turn in the box and send his low shot under the keeper, all level. Minutes later they had turned it around, 2-1, Brad Steele with a cross from outside the box, to everyone’s surprise saw this land in the back of the net. The legends weren’t giving up, pushing for a leveler and creating some good chances but it was Heighington who finished strongest, Lee Gray muscling his way into the box before sending a rocket of a strike into the top bag, you just don’t save those. Full time 3-1 Heighington.
Not the best performance from the lads it has to be said but they got over the line in what was a very tough game against the legends. A great occasion for an amazing charity, we do it all again next year.
Next up in our pre-season is a home game against A.F.C Turbinia, Wednesday 6pm KO, just in time to watch Southgate sending us to a final.
Any teams that would like support in fundraising in order to purchase life saving device please get in touch and we can work together to make it happen.
