MISSEDABEAT has installed a community defibrillator at the top of the bank close to the main road running through School Aycliffe, after discussions with Mark and Bev, who kindly offered to have the defibrillator installed at the rear of their garden at West Cottages, 2 School Aycliffe Lane, School Aycliffe, DL5 6QB.
Mark and Bev are well-known in the local community for their spectacular Christmas light displays, which have brought joy to passersby for many years. Their garden, situated along the main road in School Aycliffe, attracts numerous visitors each holiday season. During the COVID-19 lockdown, Mark and Bev decided to use their festive tradition as an opportunity to give back, encouraging visitors to donate food, gifts, and winter essentials for those in need.
This year, inspired by their son Evan’s football team and the portable defibrillator donated to his coach by MISSEDABEAT, they decided to support the charity. By placing a donation box outside their Christmas lights display, they raised an incredible £360, with families showing their appreciation and support for the cause.
Mark from MISSEDABEAT was joined by Mark, his son Evan, and Sandra Liddle at the unveiling of the community defibrillator.
Sandra and her family also played a significant role in making this project a reality, raising £500 in memory of Sandra’s late husband, who had survived a heart attack years earlier and deeply appreciated the peace of mind that portable defibrillators brought him. Sandra shared, “Following his recent passing, we felt that raising money for MISSEDABEAT would be a meaningful way to honour his memory and help others feel that same sense of security in our community.”
During the unveiling, Mark from MISSEDABEAT shared exciting future plans to enhance the cabinet further by adding a Bleed Control Kit and registering it on the national circuit. This addition will ensure the cabinet not only provides access to a defibrillator but also includes essential first-aid resources for emergencies, offering even greater support to the local community.
Mark and Bev have also taken on the role of guardians for the defibrillator, ensuring it is regularly checked and always ready for use. Remarkably, the defibrillator was activated in an emergency just days after its installation, highlighting how vital these life-saving devices are.
MISSEDABEAT is currently working on six new projects, including the installation of five additional community defibrillators and supporting a local girls’ football team in obtaining a portable defibrillator.
Thanks to the combined efforts of MISSEDABEAT, Sandra Liddle, and Mark and Bev, this defibrillator is now available in a key location, offering peace of mind and potentially saving lives for years to come.
The defibrillator is located to the rear of the garden, close to the main road, and is clearly visible next to the bus stop, making it easily accessible for the community.
